What school is right for you? “Few things are as daunting as trying to do what is best for your children, especially when it comes to their education. No matter how good it is, no school fits every child. Therefore, it falls to us as parents to figure out our children's needs and to find a school which can provide it. Our experience with more progressive philosophies of both education and parenting has left us frustrated with most of our children’s school experiences. However, we believe we have found a school which is best for [our child], The Friends School of Charlotte. We are excited about the promise of a program that is truly respectful of students as people, and focuses on thinking rather than obedience. The benefit of a Friends approach to progressive education is that it is grounded in genuine belief that we all, including the students, are part of something bigger. Each step, each grade, each phase, is just a part of the whole and is not simply a stepping stone or preparation for what comes next. We trust that the Friends School of Charlotte will allow and encourage our daughter to live her life now—to have opinions, to take risks, to make mistakes, to learn, to play, to contribute—not that she is working toward living life later. Maybe it will help us do the same.”
